Powers of Attorney
We assist our clients by preparing valid Durable General Powers of Attorney to be used in the event they become necessary. A power of attorney allows you, as the principal, to appoint one or more agents to act in your stead.
The power of attorney can be general or have limitations, but is effective immediately upon the agent accepting the authority writing by notarized signature. The power of attorney is “durable” which means that it remains effective even if the grantor is no longer of sound mind (unless a court removes the agent for acting improperly). The power of attorney is good as long as the grantor is alive and have not revoked it.

The power of attorney should only be granted to someone that you trust. The general power of attorney document gives your agent the power to spend all of your money and sell property that you own without ever telling you. It is important to grant a power of attorney so that someone may act for you if you become unable to do so, but this choice must not be taken lightly.
